Art that Speaks for Homeless Pets
The Best Friends Art Project, "Art that Speaks for Homeless Pets" is a display of works by Cyrus Mejia and Clay Myers. The exhibit will be displayed in the Diamond Club from August 23 to August 31. The display will be available for viewing during these home games, day and night. For those wishing to view the exhibit without purchasing a ticket to the game, the exhibit will be open for viewing post game on all day games while the exhibit is on display. Cancer Awareness Day
On June 18, the American Cancer Society and the Texas Rangers teamed up to bring fans the first annual Cancer Awareness Day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. A public service announcement about cancer awareness was shown during pre-game activities. Also, cancer survivors were recognized for being in the audience at the game. This Cancer Awareness Day was dedicated to the memory of Mark & Alice Holtz.
For seventeen years, Mark Holtz was a radio and television broadcaster for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. Mark's enthusiastic presence in the broadcast booth and his voice will always be synonymous with Texas Rangers baseball. Rangers fans will forever remember his trademark call to conclude a victory – "Hello Win Column!" In 1997, Mark died of a leukemia-related illness, and in 1999, his wife Alice also died of cancer.
CAPCure
The seventh annual CAPCure Home Run Challenge took place on Father's Day June 19th. As part of this special day, a CAPCure blue ribbon logo was on the field and blue temporary tattoos were distributed at all gates. The entire Rangers team also wore blue wristbands that day. The wristbands worn helped raise awareness about prostate cancer and encouraged fans to make a pledge for all home runs hit on that day. The Home Run Challenge raises money to fund prostate cancer research; the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in America, which afflicts nearly one in six American Men. For more information, please call (817) 273-5207.

Cook Like A Pro

In January, the Texas Rangers Wives got together to develop a project aimed at both giving fans a personal look at who the Texas Rangers are and benefiting a local charity. They selected the idea of a cookbook because what better way to get to know someone than through their favorite foods! The wives have been hard at work creating a design and gathering recipes and photos for the "Cook Like A Pro" player and staff cookbook, sponsored by Dannon. All players, coaches, staff, and members of the baseball front office will be featured in this 116-page colorful and delicious book.
All proceeds benefit two area non-profit organizations – The Family Place and Second Harvest. Rangers wives will be selling the books during weekend games, and they may also be purchased at the Majestic Grand Slam Gift shop or by calling 817-273-5207.

First Annual Diamond Boot

The Texas Chapter of the American Society for Autism (ASA) teamed up with the wives of the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros to support the cause of raising awareness for autism in the general public. The wives wore jerseys with their husband's number on the back as they battled against each other to win the silver boot. James Denton (of Desperate Housewives) served as the celebrity umpire for the event. The event raised $20,000 for its cause and will become an annual tradition between the wives of the two teams. Ronald McDonald House
Five families from the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas were treated to a trip to watch the Rangers play the Astros in Houston on June 25. The trip is courtesy of a partnership with Southwest Airlines, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, and Kevin Mench.
Southwest Airlines provided air transportation to Houston and the families were given choice tickets to the game, along with t-shirts and baseball caps displaying Kevin Mench's number. Kevin Mench hosted a meet and greet session with the families as they watched the team's batting practice. The families then toured Minute Maid Park before eating provided refreshments while watching the game.
For the eleventh year, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Southwest Airlines partnership have sent various groups of children to different locations. Of these include a trip to Sea World with Juan Gonzalez, a lunch with then Governor George Bush at the State Capitol in Austin, and a daytrip at Arlington's very own Six Flags over Texas. The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas exists to provide a comforting place to stay for families with seriously ill children traveling to Dallas. A special thanks to Southwest Airlines, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, and Kevin Mench for providing these five families with this special opportunity.
