years, matching the number of playoff appearances for the first 49
years in Washington/Texas franchise history (1961-2009)...led the
Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and
2011, joining Cito Gaston (Toronto, 1992-93) as the only minority
managers in baseball history to accomplish the feat in consecutive
years...in seven seasons as the club's manager, has compiled a
520-452 (.535) record, the highest winning pct. ever by a Rangers manager with a minimum two full seasons... ranks among the
club's all-time managerial leaders in wins (2nd, 520) and games

Is 18-16 in 34 postseason games as a manager, all with Texas in 2010-11-12...is the only manager in Washington/Texas franchise history (1961-2012) with a postseason
series victory to his credit, and was at the helm for 18 of the 19
all-time playoff wins ever by the franchise...joins Bobby Cox (ATL,
1995- 96), Joe Torre (NYY, 1998-99-2000-01), and Charlie Manuel
(PHI, 2008-09) as only managers in the Division Series era to advance their clubs to consecutive World Series (winning 2 series to
get there)...in 2010, joined Mike Hargrove (1997 Indians) as only
managers to defeat two A.L. East teams en route to a World Series
appearance...Tribe beat Yankees (ALDS) and Orioles (ALCS) in
that postseason...joins Rangers Hall of Famer Johnny Oates as
the only managers ever to guide Texas to the postseason... has
won 4 of his 6 postseason series (of multiple games) as skipper...
was also on Oakland staff for 5 postseason appearances, going

Research indicates Washington was the
first manager in major league history (1876-2012) to increase
his team's win total in 4 straight years after his initial season with
a club (continuous service to one club)...joined Phillies' Charlie
Manuel as only major league managers to preside over increased
win totals spanning four years from 2008-11, although Manuel's
streak did not begin until his second year in Philly...Texas has
finished in first or second for a club-record five straight seasons
(2008-12).
AWARDS CIRCUIT Has placed in A.L. Manager of the Year voting for four consecutive seasons: 2009 (T4th), 2010 (2nd), 2011 (3rd), and 2012 (6th)...received 2011 C.I. Taylor A.L. OAKLAND
Washington spent the last 11 seasons as a coach
with the Oakland A's from 1996-2006...he was the club's third
base coach the last 10 seasons after spending one season as
the team's first base coach...during his time in Oakland, the A's
went to the American League playoffs 5 times, including an
appearance in the ALCS in 2006...helped Oakland lead the
American League in the fielding percentage in 2004 and 2005,
and finished 2nd in 2006.
MINOR LEAGUE COACHING CAREER
Washington's
coaching career began in 1991 in the New York Mets organization
at Triple-A Tidewater...spent 2 seasons there before taking over
as manager of Capital City (Columbia, SC), the Mets' Class A club
in the South Atlantic League... guided the Bombers to a 64-77
record in 1993 and a 59-76 mark in 1994...in 1995, he returned
as coach for the Mets' AAA affiliate, which had moved to Norfolk.
PLAYING CAREER
Appeared in 564 career major league
games and batted .261 (414-1586) with 20 home runs and 146
RBI...appeared in 531 career games in the field and recorded a
.961 fielding percentage...saw action at shortstop (372 games),
second base (111), third base (43), outfield (4) and first base
(1)...spent all or parts of 10 seasons in the Majors with Los
Angeles, Minnesota, Baltimore, Cleveland and Houston...made
his debut with the Dodgers in 1977 and, despite hitting .368 in
10 games, did not return to the Majors until 1981 with
Minnesota...established career highs in nearly every category
with the Twins in 1982, batting .271 with 5 home runs, 122 hits,
48 runs, and 39 RBI...though he never had enough plate
appearances to qualify for league leader status, batted a career best
.294 (58-197) for the Twins in 1984...spent 6 seasons with
Minnesota before joining Baltimore in 1987 and appearing in 26
games...finished his professional playing career with Triple- A
Oklahoma City in the Rangers organization in 1990...in 1981,
ranked 3rd in International League in total bases (245), triples
(8) and hits (157), and was 10th in batting (.289)...topped the IL
in doubles (31) and was 10th in batting (.287) in 1980...in first
pro season with Sarasota in 1972, led Gulf Coast League in
steals (13) and triples (tied-6)...named the league's All-Star
catcher and led the league in fielding (.987).
COMMUNITY
Ron has been very active in the Metroplex community since being hired...received 2012 Apple Award by St.
Philips School and Community Center in Dallas...last year was
third year to participate in Communities in Schools Dallas Region
Line Drive Luncheon...in his honor, CIS will sponsor the Rangers Foundation and just keep livin' CIS Campus Manager...has
donated to Rangers Jr. RBI and RBI programs, participating in
clinics for both groups' coaches...in commemoration of Jackie
Robinson Day, joined Yankees manager Joe Girardi at a youth
baseball and softball clinic for the Newark, NJ RBI program on
April 15, 2011 in New York...received 2010 Martin Luther King,
Jr. Special Achievement Award...received 2011 Focus Award for
Commitment to Healthy Lifestyle by Near Southeast Community
Dev. Corp...was honorary chair for New Orleans RBI Golf Tournament to raise funds for the local RBI program...is involved with
MLB Urban Youth Academy in his native New Orleans, and attended facility's groundbreaking in August 2011...was inducted
into Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Dec. 11, 2010...has participated in many African-American initiatives during his tenure...

Ronald Washington...the native of New Orleans
graduated from John McDonogh High School in 1970, where he
played baseball and football...was honored at his high school on
Feb. 3, 2009 in what was declared "Ronald Washington Day" in
the City of New Orleans...attended Manatee Junior College in
Bradenton, Fla...originally signed as a free agent catcher by Kansas City out of the Royals Baseball Academy...Ron and his wife,
Gerry, were married on Sept. 16, 1972 and reside in New Orleans.
