WITH TEXAS
Anderson enters his fifth season on the big league
staff, his first as the first base coach...he has served the last four
years (2009-12) as the team's third base coach since being hired
on Oct. 22, 2008...he landed the promotion to his first big league
coaching job after spending the 2007-08 seasons as a manager and
instructor in the Rangers' farm system...as part of his duties, he is
responsible for overseeing the club's infield defense and serves as
coordinator of the daily schedule during spring training...in his role,
Anderson has aided in the club's improved fielding and baserunning
during his tenure.
COACHING CAREER
Was the team's field coordinator in 2008,
assisting in instruction throughout the Rangers farm system...was
manager for Double-A Frisco in 2007, guiding the RoughRiders to a
postseason berth...was his first season as a minor league manager
since 2000, when he managed at Triple-A Toledo in the Detroit system...spent seven seasons as a manager in the Detroit organization,
recording a 422-409 (.508) record with stops in the New York-Penn
League (Jamestown), Florida State League (Lakeland), Southern
League (Jacksonville) and the International League (Toledo). He
then served as infield coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers in
2006...led Jacksonville (AA) to the best combined record in the
Southern League's East Division (75-66) in 1999...led Jacksonville
to the Southern League finals in 1998 and was named the manager
of the league's All-Star game...his 1994 Jamestown (A) squad won
the New York-Penn League Stedler Division title...after opening the
2000 season as manager at Triple-A Toledo, Anderson resigned
midway through the season to accept the head coaching position
at his alma mater, the University of Memphis...spent four seasons at
Memphis (2001-04), compiling a 104-116 career record.
PLAYING CAREER
Played collegiate ball at University of
Memphis...is a member of the school's Baseball Hall of Fame, as he
was a career .396 (147-371) hitter with 22 home runs and 107
RBI...he was named a first-team All-American in 1981...following his
playing time at Memphis, was selected in the first round (22nd overall)
in the 1981 amateur draft...he went on to play 10 seasons in the
Major Leagues, 8 with the Dodgers...appeared in 116 games for the
Dodgers' 1988 World Championship club and played on two other
division-winning teams in 1983 and 1985...also played 2 seasons
with the San Francisco Giants (1990-91) before ending his career
with the Dodgers in 1992...although he was never officially
announced as a pinch-hitter, Anderson was in the on-deck circle
before swapping places with Kirk Gibson, who went on to hit a dramatic
2-run homer off Dennis Eckersley in the bottom of the 9th to
end Game 1 in the 1988 World Series.
PERSONAL
David Carter Anderson...he and his wife, Janet,
reside in Los Angeles, CA with twin daughters Georgia and Olivia
(3/25/11)...Dave has two adult children, daughter Christa (1/3/84)
and son Ryan (12/14/86)...has participated in the Rangers Winter
Caravan...donated to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.
