|MLBPA Press Release|
Players from the Chicago Cubs, White Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim recently traded in their uniforms for acting roles in videos written and produced by Funny or Die, the award-winning comedy website founded by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. The videos will premier on Funny or Die (which had a record-breaking 8 million unique visitors in August), beginning today with one featuring Cubs players Ryan Dempster, Mark DeRosa, Geovany Soto, Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot being pestered by an annoying, flying monobrow.
The remaining videos feature Angels players Torii Hunter and Howie Kendrick as guests of a first-of-its-kind sports talk show and White Sox slugger Nick Swisher letting teammate, Toby Hall, in on his plan to use a secret weapon at the plate called Thunderbolt.
Each of the videos end with personal pleas from the players urging viewers to support causes they believe in.
After debuting on Funny or Die, the videos will be posted on www.MLBPLAYERS.com, MLB.com, and other popular Internet video destinations.
Through the Players Trust, Major Leaguers contribute their time, money and celebrity to call attention to important causes affecting the needy and to help encourage others to get involved in their own communities. In partnership with Volunteers of America, the national human service organization, the Players Trust created and helps administer the Action Team, a national youth volunteer initiative currently inspiring the next generation of volunteers in cities throughout the United States.
