Gathright refining his raw speed
Royals outfielder figuring out who he is
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

Entering his sixth season, Joey Gathright is still refining the way he employs his raw speed on the field.

"It took me a while to really understand what I can do on a baseball field," Gathright told MLBPLAYERS.com in a recent Players Talk show. "Last year I finally realized all that stuff and tried to put it into the game, and this year I'm doing the same thing."

"It means a lot because if you know what type of player you are and it's something that teams worry about all the time, you can be a dominant player or somebody who can cause a lot of problems."

Gathright has been working with Royals first base coach Rusty Kuntz this offseason to improve his base stealing.

Returning from a season in which he raised his batting average from .262 to .307 and his on-base percentage from .332 to .371 as a part-timer, Gathright is hoping for even more opportunites to use that speed, too.
