On a hot day in Texas, rain cooled off the field, but Lenny DiNardo couldn't warm himself back up. The lefty returned after a 73-minute rain delay and gave up seven runs in the second inning, though an error by shortstop Donnie Murphy didn't help. The A's rallied in the seventh to make it close, but the hill proved too high to climb.
The Rangers and A's were twice held up by rain on Sunday. But after waiting out a total of 89 minutes, Texas busted out with eight runs in the second -- capped by a three-run homer by Sammy Sosa -- to complete a sweep. A three-run bottom of the seventh provided cushion after Oakland had made it close in the top of the frame.
