The A's appeared to have the upper hand in the pitching matchup. But ace Dan Haren was done early, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits in only 4 2/3 innings, while the offense was shut out on two hits against Edinson Volquez. The A's finally broke through with two in the eighth, but it wasn't enough in Friday's loss.
Frank Catalanotto was on from the start, as he blasted a leadoff homer to start the first inning. He would also rack up two more RBIs on a triple and a single to power the Rangers offense. Edinson Volquez did his part, holding the A's to no runs on just two hits in six innings, earning his second win of the year.
