The Royals rallied from a five-run deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning, but two innings later, a Jason LaRue throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to score. Jason Smith smacked a three-run homer in the fourth and Mike Sweeney went 3-for-5 with two runs.
The Rangers scored five times in the first inning and once in the second, but watched the Royals claw back to tie the game. In the seventh, Ian Kinsler stole third and scored on the resulting throwing error to start a two run frame and Texas held on for the victory.
