Gil Meche probably deserved a better fate than the loss he endured on Wednesday, but the Royals managed only one run in support of their righty ace. After several rough outings against the Rangers earlier in his career, Meche rebounded, allowing three earned runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work on a hot night.
Vicente Padilla did not hang around long enough to benefit from Michael Young's go-ahead two-run double in the sixth, but his five-inning performance was encouraging for the Rangers nonetheless. Padilla allowed only an unearned run in the start, and the Rangers bullpen kept the Royals in check the rest of the way.
