The Rays finally got to the Rangers for three runs in the fifth inning, but Andy Sonnanstine couldn't hold the lead, giving up three in the bottom of the inning on the way to a loss in the series opener. Carl Crawford extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

After starter Brandon McCarthy was knocked out in the top of the inning, Frank Catalanotto answered big time in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer that gave the Rangers a lead en route to their win over the Rays.
