Nate Robertson tossed 30 pitches in the first inning and had allowed six runs without retiring a batter before he was lifted. The Tigers managed to chip away at the Rangers' lead in the second and fourth innings, but it wasn't enough to complete a rally.

Sammy Sosa's RBI single drove in Jerry Hairston for the first run of a six-run first inning for the Rangers, which included a grand slam by Victor Diaz. Michael Young went 4-for-4 to contribute to the offense, which held up for the victory despite a shaky start by John Rheinecker.
