Trailing 5-0, the Rangers broke through with three runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded, but Frank Catalanotto struck out to end the threat. Starter Kameron Loe allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss. Sammy Sosa remained stuck on 598 career homers.

Righty Miguel Batista allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory, his third in a row. Both runs scored after he left the game. Ichiro Suzuki's team-record hit streak came to an end at 25 games. Jose Guillen homered to lead off a three-run sixth.
