Frank Catalanotto hit a two-run double, and Gerald Laird hit a three-run homer as the offense posted five in the fourth inning. A 7-0 Mariners lead after three proved too much to overcome, however, as the Rangers fell for the eighth time in nine games in the opener at Safeco Field.
Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to 24 games and Richie Sexson hit a two-run single in the three-run first, and Adrian Beltre's RBI single started a four-run third as Seattle built a 7-0 lead. Ichiro picked up his third hit, second RBI and second run scored in a two-run ninth inning.
