Rangers stand up to Yanks

After tripling in the fifth inning, Gerald Laird scored the tiebreaking run by slithering out of a rundown to give the Rangers a lead they would keep. Mark Teixeira had four hits, and Victor Diaz hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the Rangers' first win over the Yankees in their last nine meetings.

In the follow-up to his brush with perfection, Chien-Ming Wang lacked rhythm, allowing seven runs on 11 hits to take his third loss. The Yankees' chance at a comeback unraveled quickly in the seventh and eighth innings, when Luis Vizcaino and Sean Henn allowed seven runs combined.
