Mike Wood contained the Yankees in Arlington last week, but he had no such luck on Tuesday, allowing eight runs (six earned). Hank Blalock had three of the Rangers' seven doubles, collecting his fourth multi-hit game of the month, but a Jerry Hairston error with two outs in the third inning led to two runs. Eric Gagne went unused in his return from the disabled list.

Alex Rodriguez put an end to his mini-homer slump, hitting No. 15 in the fifth inning to support Andy Pettitte, who gave the Yankees their third quality start in four games. Doug Mientkiewicz continued his resurgence, collecting two hits and scoring twice.
