Dan Haren put in another strong start, but the offense ran into a slightly more dominating starter in the series finale. Haren struck out a career-high 12 Rangers over seven innings, but the Athletics missed out on the sweep as the bats were never able to get on track against Texas' Vicente Padilla.
Vicente Padilla struck out eight over eight scoreless innings to salvage the Rangers' series with the Athletics. Matt Stairs hit a two-run shot in the second, and Michael Young (2-for-4) drove in Gary Matthews Jr. (3-for-4) with a single in the third. Akinori Otsuka shut the door for his 28th save.
