Rangers prospects Alfaro, Gallo homer in win

Home runs from two of the Rangers' top prospects help power Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach to a 9-6 victory against Salem on Monday.
Rangers' No. 1 prospect Jorge Alfaro hit his first home run of the season in the second inning and reigning Minor League home run champion Joey Gallo followed with a blast of his own in the third.
The win extended the Pelicans winning streak to seven games after a 0-4 start.
While Alfaro, ranked No. 37 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospect list, is typically a catcher, he got something of a break on Monday by playing first base. It seemed to help his bat, which, like the team, got off to a slow start this season. He entered the day hitting .235 with just two extra-base hits in nine games. He doubled that output with a double to go with his home run.
Gallo, the 90th ranked prospect in baseball, also got off to something of a slow start this season. After hitting 40 home runs last year, he went homerless in his first six games of the season. He has heated up since, and Monday's blast was his fifth in five games. The third baseman now has a .343/.447/.800 slash line and ranks second among all Minor Leaguers in home runs this season.
