Selig: Davis to be Rangers' controlling owner
By Adam Berry / MLB.com
As expected, Ray Davis will take over for Nolan Ryan as the controlling owner of the Rangers, Commissioner Bud Selig confirmed Thursday.
Ryan announced on Oct. 17 that he was stepping down as the Rangers' chief executive officer, effective at the end of the month. He sold his ownership stake to Davis and Bob Simpson, the club's co-chairmen.
"It hasn't been quite determined, but [Davis] will be the control person," Selig said before Game 2 of the World Series.
Major League Baseball requires that each club appoint a designated control person to represent the team with MLB. Davis' approval likely will be finalized when the owners meet in Orlando, Fla., in November.
