Arlington, Texas---The Texas Rangers will be honored by the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth at tonight's 2013 Sun & Sun Star Legacy Award Dinner in Dallas.
The Rangers will receive the 2013 Bridges-to-Friendship Award, which is presented annually by the organization to honor organizations and individuals which have built bridges of friendship and understanding between Japanese and Americans in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
In 2012, the Rangers partnered with the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth and the U.S. Japan Council, on several initiatives in conjunction with the 2012 Japan-America Grassroots Summit. A youth baseball team from the Japan city of Ishinomaki traveled to the United States for the Grassroots Summit as part of the TOMODACHI Initiative with funding for the trip provided by the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish, and gloops, Inc.
The Rangers hosted Japan America Friendship Night on August 28 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with several hundred participants in the Japan-American Grassroots Summit in attendance, including the Ishinomaki team.
The Rangers are planning a Japan American Friendship event for this season with the details still being finalized.
The Rangers will be represented at tonight's dinner by Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation President Jim Sundberg and Foundation Executive Director Karin Morris. The dinner will take place at the Westin Galleria Dallas.
