Adrian Beltre named 2012 Texas Rangers Player of the Year
The Texas Rangers announced today that third baseman Adrian Beltre has been selected as the team's 2012 Player of the Year in voting conducted by the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Beltre joins Buddy Bell (1979, 1981, 1982) and Michael Young (2009) as Rangers third basemen to win Player of the Year honors.
Beltre hit .321 with 36 home runs and 102 RBI in 156 games for the Rangers this season. He placed third in the A.L. in batting average and total bases (339), was fourth in hits (194) and slugging (.561), ranked sixth in homers and extra base hits (71), and was ninth in RBI. Beltre also led all A.L. basemen with a .974 fielding percentage and captured his fourth Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
Beltre will be among the award recipients at the 2013 Texas Rangers Dr Pepper Awards Show, which will be held in conjunction with Fan Fest on Friday, January 11. Other award winners will be announced in upcoming weeks.
