Rangers begin ten-game homestand with Baltimore, Minnesota, and Tampa Bay on Monday

Good seats remain for all games

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers begin a 10-game homestand on Monday, August 20.  The homestand features series with the Baltimore Orioles (3 games), Minnesota Twins (4 games), and Tampa Bay Rays (3 games).

Good seats remain for the entire homestand, including 6,500 on Friday and 8,000 on Saturday for games against Minnesota.  Saturday features a Ron Washington Bobblehead giveaway sponsored by PlainsCapital Bank for the first 30,000 fans.  Verizon Wireless Fireworks Friday will once again follow that night’s game with the Twins.

The homestand includes a pair of Wednesday games each of the next two weeks, both of which will feature Dr Pepper Autograph opportunities as well as Dollar Hot Dog Night.

Baltimore makes their first and only appearance of the season during the three-game series from Monday, August 20 through Wednesday, August 22 to begin the homestand.  Tampa Bay is the opponent for the homestand’s final three games from Monday, August 27 to Wednesday, August 29. The Rays have been the Rangers’ opponent in the American League Division Series each of the past two years.

Tuesday, August 28 will be Japan America Friendship Night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with several hundred participants in the Japan-American Grassroots Summit expected to be in attendance.  The event is being organized by the Rangers with the assistance of several local Japanese organizations.  The 2012 Japan-America Grassroots Summit will take place in North Texas from August 28-September 3. 

A youth baseball team from the Japan city of Ishinomaki will be the Rangers’ guest on August 28 as part of the TOMODACHI Initiative. The city is located in the Tohoku region of Japan which was heavily damaged by the March 2011 tsunami. Led by the United States Government and the U.S.-Japan Council, TOMODACHI is a public-private initiative that support’s Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011 and invests in the next generation of Japanese and Americans in ways that strengthen cultural and economic ties.

Funding for the baseball team trip, which is being organized by the John Manjiro Whitfield Commemorative Center for International Exchange (CIE) in Japan, is being provided by the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish, and gloops, Inc., which is also an official corporate partner of the Rangers. The Ishinomaki team will also participate in a variety of other education and baseball activities during their week-long stay in North Texas.
