Murphy, Hawpe homer in game called by rain

The triple belonged to Caleb Gindl, who motored to third after Rangers center fielder Craig Gentry crashed into the wall, forcing open a large gate. Gentry and left fielder Conor Jackson worked together to close it so play could continue."It was crazy out there," Gindl said. "It was scary in the outfield. After a while we were all just playing deep, knowing the ball would either get to us or blow out." Play didn't last long after the Brewers' four-run third inning. Brewers reliever Manny Parra pitched a scoreless fourth, then the grounds crew covered the field before the bottom of the inning could begin. After a delay of just 12 minutes, the game was called. "The players got a couple of at-bats, and we got some innings in," Rangers bench coach Jackie Moore said. "It's a heck of a lot better than sitting in the clubhouse in Surprise and trying to figure out what you are going to do. The bottom line is that it was a bad day but a good day as far as getting our work in." The Brewers moved starter Zack Greinke to a morning simulated game to ensure he got his work. Pitching prospect Tyler Thornburg started against the Rangers instead, and surrendered Murphy's two-run homer before recording an out. Hawpe hit his home run off Milwaukee reliever Kameron Loe, who had escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second inning and returned for the third. Loe also took a rare at-bat, showing bunt and pulling back on six consecutive pitches in the second inning before he was called out on strikes. "It was cold and definitely windy, blowing out to left field. It was blowing everywhere, actually," Loe said. "But I got my work in. Overall, I'm happy with the day."
Up next for Rangers: Yu Darvish will be on the mound and Mike Napoli will be behind the plate on Monday when the Rangers host the Brewers at 3 p.m. CT in Surprise. Darvish, making his third start, will be looking to throw 60 pitches over four innings. This will be Napoli's first time behind the plate since March 8. He has been dealing with a strained left groin muscle.
