By / MLB.com
The Texas Rangers announced today that right-handed pitcher Darren O'Day has been claimed on waivers by the Baltimore Orioles and added to that club's major league roster.
O'Day, 29, appeared in just 16 games for the Rangers in 2011 due to injuries with an 0-1 record and 5.40 ERA (10 ER/16.2 IP). He opened the season with Texas but was on the 60-day disabled list from April 27-July 1 after undergoing surgery to repair a partial tear of the labrum in his left hip. O'Day was also on the Rangers' DL from August 25-September 12 with right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander combined to go 1-0, 2.53 in 18 games with Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA). He was not active for any of the three postseason rounds.
O'Day is 8-5, 2.89 with two saves in 186 major league relief appearances with the Angels (2008), Mets (2009), and Rangers (2009-11). Claimed on waivers from the Mets on April 22, 2009, he was 2-1, 1.94 in 64 games the rest of that season with the Rangers and went 6-3, 2.03 in a team high 72 appearances in 2010.
