Outfielder Ronald Guzman, 16, who recently agreed to sign with the Rangers from the Dominican Republic, worked out at the Ballpark in Arlington on Friday. The Rangers are expected to make a formal announcement on his signing on Saturday. The Rangers have also reached an amateur free agent agreement with Venezuelan left-hander Yohander Mendez. Pitcher David Bush has cleared unconditional release waivers and is currently a free agent. Derek Holland, with a 6-0 victory over Oakland on Thursday, was the first pitcher in Rangers history to be knocked out of one start in the 1st inning and then throw a shutout in his next start. Senators pitcher Pete Broberg did it in 1971 when the franchise was still in Washington D.C. The last Major League pitcher to do so was Jim Bullinger for the Expos in 1997. The Rangers nine shutouts before the All-Star break matches a club record set in 1977. Holland is the first Rangers pitcher to throw multiple shutouts in a season since Aaron Sele in 1999. Kenny Rogers was the last left-hander in 1994, including his perfect game.
