Young's two hits give him Rangers record

Third baseman bests Pudge for franchise multihit games

NEW YORK -- Michael Young has his first career Rangers offensive record.

Young had two hits in four at-bats on Saturday afternoon in a 7-3 loss to the Yankees. That gives him 491 multihit games, pushing him past Ivan Rodriguez for the most in club history.

Since 2003, Young has 430 multihit games. Only Ichiro Suzuki has more such games in that span. Young now has 10 hits on the season, giving him 1,672 on the year. That leaves him 75 behind Rodriguez for the most hits in Rangers history.

"Hopefully there are more to come," Young said. "Any time you move up in the record book, it means a lot considering how many great offensive players this franchise has had."

Young's second hit came leading off the eighth inning and he eventually scored on Nelson Cruz's three-run home run. That was Cruz's seventh home run of the season in 11 games. That's the fastest any Rangers player has hit seven home runs to begin the season. Ian Kinsler hit seven in 13 games to start the 2007 season.
