Monday, March 22

Rangers at the plate: Julio Borbon opened the game with a base hit and scored on Vladimir Guerrero's two-out single. Elvis Andrus led off the fifth inning with his first homer of the spring. Rangers starter C.J. Wilson followed with a double and scored on Michael Young's single. Guerrero doubled home Young.

Giants at the plate: Aubrey Huff singled home Aaron Rowand with one out in the bottom of the first for the Giants' first run. Juan Uribe doubled home Mark DeRosa and Huff during the three-run inning. Edgar Renteria had a double. Tied at 4, Darren Ford tripled with one out in the ninth and scored the game-winner on Jeff Frandsen's sac fly.

Rangers on the mound: Wilson threw five innings of four hit, three-run ball with a walk and two strikeouts. He also hit a batter. Reliever Alexi Ogando worked a scoreless sixth inning, allowing a hit while walking one and whiffing one.

Giants on the mound: Barry Zito had the longest stint of the spring for a Giants starter, working 6 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on 10 hits, including a home run. He struck out four and walked none. Brandon Medders replaced him, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one in his two-thirds of an inning.

Worth noting: Uribe came out of the game in the top of the third inning with tightness in his right hamstring after coming up short when he rounded second on his first-inning double. Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, sidelined Monday from a spike wound in his right shin suffered on Friday that took five stitches, is expected to return on Tuesday.

Cactus League records: Rangers: 6-12; Giants: 15-6

Up next: The Giants play the White Sox at Camelback Ranch at 1:05 p.m. PT on Tuesday. Right-hander Matt Cain will face White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd. It will be Cain's fourth start of the spring. He's 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA -- six earned runs in 8 2/3 innings. On Wednesday, the Giants have a split-squad road double-header in a 1:05 p.m. PT game against the Reds at Goodyear Ball Park and a 7:05 p.m. PT game against the Royals at Surprise Stadium. Right-hander Henry Sosa will start the day game, and left-hander Jonathan Sanchez is slated for the night tilt. The night game is a makeup of the March 7 contest, which was rained out.

The Rangers are off on Tuesday and play a home game against the Cubs at Surprise Stadium at 3:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Right-hander Brandon McCarthy will pitch for the Rangers against left-hander Sean Marshall. McCarthy has a 7.00 ERA this spring and opponents are hitting .308 off him as he tries to win a spot either in the rotation or the bullpen. Luis Mendoza, another candidate for the 'pen, is also pitching on Wednesday.
