Feldman going for a bit of road history

Texas (78-60) at Cleveland (60-78), 11:05 a.m. CT

CLEVELAND -- Scott Feldman goes for a bit of history when he pitches for the Rangers against the Indians on Wednesday afternoon.

Feldman is going for his 12th road victory of 2009, which would be the most by a Texas pitcher in one season. He is currently tied with Vicente Padilla and Rick Helling.

"Cool," Feldman said, although he is really not getting caught up in the historical aspect of the whole thing.

"I don't think it's very historic," Feldman said. "We're in a good position and we've got to come out and hopefully keep playing good baseball. I don't think winning a certain amount of games on the road is important. Winning games in general is the name of the game."

Feldman is 11-1 with a 2.80 ERA in 14 games, including 13 starts, on the road this season. He is tied with Yankees left-hander C.C. Sabathia for most road wins in the Major Leagues. Feldman has won seven straight starts on the road since receiving a no-decision in the Rangers' 9-8 victory over the Diamondbacks on June 25. His only loss on the road came on June 19 when he was beaten, 6-4, by the Giants in San Francisco.

At home, Feldman is 4-3 with a 4.56 ERA in 14 games, including 12 starts.

Pitching matchup
TEX: RHP Scott Feldman (15-4, 3.62 ERA)
Feldman beat the Indians, 4-1, on Aug. 13 at Progressive Field, allowing one run on seven hits, a walk and six strikeouts. He is 7-2 with a 3.28 ERA since the All-Star break. Only three Major League pitchers have won more games than Feldman since the break. Feldman is trying to become the first Rangers pitcher to win 16 games since Kevin Millwood in 2006. Only two right-handers have done that for the Rangers in the past 10 seasons. The other was Rick Helling in 2000.

CLE: RHP Fausto Carmona (3-9, 6.08 ERA)
Carmona, a 19-game winner in 2007, is 1-3 with a 4.05 ERA in seven starts since being recalled from the Minors on July 31. He was 2-6 with a 7.42 ERA in 12 starts when he was sent down in June. Carmona is 1-5 with a 4.36 ERA at home as opposed to 2-4 with an 8.04 ERA in nine starts on the road. He is 2-5 with a 4.99 ERA in his career against the Rangers. That's tied with the Yankees for his most losses against any team in his career.

Manager Ron Washington said he plans on using Ivan Rodriguez behind the plate for Thursday's game against the Indians. ... The Rangers' Minor League season came to an end on Monday, with only one team making the playoffs. The Class A Bakersfield Blaze, who went 75-65 in the regular season under first-year manager Steve Buechele, are in the California League playoffs. ... The only other Texas Minor League team to have a winning record was Double-A Frisco. The Roughriders were 72-68. Triple-A Oklahoma was 69-75.
