Jones finishes what Hamilton starts

Slugger comes in as replacement, both go deep in victory

Angels at the plate: Matt Brown banged his third homer of the spring, pushing his team-leading RBI total to 20 in 44 at-bats. Robb Quinlan unloaded his fourth homer, a shot to left-center field. Maicer Izturis singled twice in three at-bats. Reggie Willits had a bunt single and a walk.

Rangers at the plate: Andruw Jones smacked a go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning, his third of the spring, to left field against Matt Wilhite. Josh Hamilton crushed his seventh homer of the spring, a tremendous drive to right-center. Hamilton leads the Cactus League with 58 total bases. Omar Vizquel doubled and singled home a run, and Taylor Teagarden doubled. Royce Huffman was given a double after clearing the 420 sign in center field, hitting a batter's eye covering and bouncing back onto the field.

Angels on the mound: Shane Loux, in his final spring tuneup, was touched for three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks, striking out three men over five innings. Scot Shields surrendered a run on two singles and a walk, striking out one hitter. Jose Arredondo worked out of a second-and-third, no-outs jam with three pop flies. Jason Bulger pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout.

Rangers on the mound: Doug Mathis yielded a first-inning run on two walks, a single and sacrifice fly and then settled into a groove, retiring 10 of 11 hitters before a walk preceded Brown's two-run homer. Mathis finished his four innings with three earned runs on three hits and three walks plus a hit batsman, striking out four. Tommy Hunter pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout, giving up one hit.

Cactus League records: Angels 24-7-1; Rangers 19-13-1.

Up next: The Rangers wrap up their Arizona portion of Spring Training on Thursday with a 2:05 p.m. CT game against the Royals in Surprise. Scott Feldman (2-1, 6.19) is making his sixth Cactus League start but is headed for the bullpen. He'll face southpaw Horacio Ramirez. Scheduled to follow Feldman to the mound are Josh Rupe, Derrick Turnbow, Eddie Guardado and C.J. Wilson.
