Hamilton belts a pair vs. Angels

Rangers slugger runs homer total to five on the spring

at Surprise, Ariz.
Sunday, March 29

Rangers at the plate: Josh Hamilton hit two home runs and drove in five. Chris Davis had a double and a home run that might have been the longest of the spring for the Rangers. It cleared the berm and the party tent in right field. Taylor Teagarden hit a three-run shot that traveled almost as far. Ian Kinsler was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Angels at the plate: Torii Hunter hit a two-run home run off of Derrick Turnbow in the sixth inning, his fourth in his last three games. Chone Figgins had a double and a single in four at-bats, although he was caught trying to go from second to third when a pickoff throw got away from shortstop Elvis Andrus in the first inning. Howie Kendrick also had two hits.

Rangers on the mound: Brandon McCarthy allowed two runs on six hits in four innings, then went to a Minor League game to finish his work. The Rangers needed the innings in an "A" game for relievers who are trying to win jobs in the bullpen. C.J. Wilson, who already has a job secured, pitched another 1-2-3 inning.

Angels on the mound: Minor League right-hander Sean O'Sullivan started so Joe Saunders could do his work back in camp in Tempe, Ariz. O'Sullivan allowed seven runs in two innings. Darren Oliver allowed two runs in the fifth inning, the first time he has been scored upon in five appearances this spring. Jose Arredondo pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Cactus League records: Rangers 17-12; Angels 22-6

Up next: Andruw Jones and Frank Catalanotto will both be in the lineup on Monday when the Rangers play the Giants at 3:05 p.m. CT at Scottsdale Stadium. Jones and Catalanotto are competing for the last spot on the bench. Kris Benson pitches for the Rangers.
