Andrus' two hits lead Rangers in loss

Murphy, Hamilton both drive in runs; starter Padilla struggles

Mariners at the plate: Franklin Gutierrez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the leadoff spot for the Mariners. Chris Woodward and Chris Shelton both hit home runs. Woodward, Matt Tuiasosopo and Ronny Cedeno all had two hits.

Rangers at the plate: Elvis Andrus had his first good day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. He was 1-for-8 coming into the game. David Murphy and Josh Hamilton both had RBI triples.

Mariners on the mound: Brandon Morrow struggled through one-plus inning of work. He faced nine batters and six reached base on three hits and three walks. He was tagged with two runs allowed.

Rangers on the mound: Vicente Padilla made his first start for the Rangers and gave up four runs in the first inning. One came across on a bases-loaded walk. Padilla came back to pitch a scoreless second inning.

Cactus League records: Mariners 3-0-1; Rangers 2-3

Up next: Jarrod Washburn starts for the Mariners at 12:05 p.m. PT on Monday against the White Sox in Glendale, Ariz. Felix Hernandez is expected to pitch one inning before leaving the Mariners for the World Baseball Classic, and Adrian Beltre could make his first appearance in the field. Matt Harrison and Kris Benson start for the Rangers at 2:05 p.m. CT on Monday against the Indians in Goodyear, Ariz. Harrison followed Benson in the Rangers' first spring game last Wednesday; now the left-hander gets his first start of the Cactus League.
