"It's disappointing," Laird said. "It's tough to swallow. I want to be out there with my teammates. I felt I had made some adjustments from last year, and I felt I was playing pretty good. Lying on the grass I was saying to myself, 'This is not happening ... this is not happening.' It's tough to swallow."The initial report was that Laird had suffered a "very mild strain." That report proved way off base. "It's not a mild strain," manager Ron Washington said. "He didn't strain it. He went down like somebody shot him." Ramirez, acquired from the Indians on July 28 last year, was hitting .363 with 17 home runs and 50 RBIs. He was chosen over Triple-A catcher Taylor Teagarden, who has some shoulder soreness and is not 100 percent. Ramirez will share playing time with Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who took over on Friday after Laird went down. "Ramirez is going to play," Washington said. "We'll just wait and see when he gets here how much he's going to play." Laird said his goal is to be back by the All-Star break in the middle of July.
