Tejeda looks to turn things around

Texas (32-47) at Boston (49-29), 6:05 p.m. CT

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Robinson Tejeda is not in any danger of losing his job in the rotation.

"That's nothing that we've discussed," Washington said.

But both he and pitching coach Mark Connor would like to see Tejeda get things turned around when he pitches against the Red Sox on Saturday night at Fenway Park. A once-promising season is turning sour.

Tejeda was 3-1 with a 3.82 ERA in his first five starts of the season, but he is 2-6 with an 8.10 ERA in his last 10 starts.

The Rangers know what's wrong with Tejeda. He just does not "repeat his delivery." That simply means he changes the way he winds up and throws the ball from pitch to pitch.

"We need innings, quality pitches and strike one from him," Connor said. "Repeating his delivery will do all those things. He needs to be focused on the task at hand and not worried about things he can't control."

Pitching matchup
TEX: RHP Robinson Tejeda (5-7, 6.57 ERA)
Tejeda started the year right by pitching seven scoreless innings against the Red Sox in the Rangers' home opener on April 6. He gave up two hits, walked three and struck out one in a 2-0 victory. It was his only career start against the Red Sox.

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (11-1, 3.07 ERA)
In his last start, Beckett allowed six hits and two runs over eight innings and struck out eight in a 4-2 victory over San Diego while outdueling Jake Peavy. The right-hander is 5-1 with a 4.22 ERA in eight starts at Fenway. This is Beckett's first start of the season against the Rangers, and he's 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two career starts against them.

Player to watch
Rangers outfielder Marlon Byrd is 5-for-15 (.333) in his career against Beckett.
