Rangers' regulars show their strength

Texas bangs out 17 hits, led by Young and Lofton

at Surprise, Ariz.

Rangers at the plate: Kenny Lofton and Michael Young each went 3-for-4. Young scored twice and had an RBI. Ian Kinsler was 2-for-4 and is now hitting .426 for the spring.

Mariners at the plate: Ben Broussard hit two home runs, both with nobody on base, and now has three for the spring. Jose Guillen also hit a solo home run.

Rangers on the mound: Rangers starter Jamey Wright allowed five runs in five innings. He walked one and did not strike out a batter. Joaquin Benoit had another scoreless inning in relief, striking out the side in the seventh. He has not been scored upon in 7 1/3 innings, striking out 11.

Mariners on the mound: Miguel Batista allowed six runs on 12 hits and a walk in six innings. Brandon Morrow, the Mariners' first-round pick (fifth overall) in last year's First-Year Player Draft, continued his bid for a spot in the bullpen, allowing a run in the seventh inning.

Cactus League records: Rangers 15-8; Mariners 12-16.

Up next: Kevin Millwood pitches for the Rangers at 3:05 p.m. CT Tuesday against the San Diego Padres at Surprise Stadium. The Mariners are at home, playing the San Francisco Giants at 1:05 p.m. PT Tuesday in Peoria. Left-hander Horacio Ramirez gets the start for Seattle. Ramirez, who makes his first regular-season start on April 6 against the Indians in Cleveland, lasted one-third of an inning against the White Sox in Tucson in his previous start. His outing was cut way short by a 47-minute rain delay. Right-hander Chris Reitsma and left-hander George Sherrill also are slated to pitch.
