Kata has slam-bang day with four hits

Teixeira returns to action; Chen fills in ably for Padilla

Rangers at the plate: Matt Kata had four hits, including two home runs. He broke an 8-8 tie with a seventh-inning grand slam. Mark Teixeira, sidelined since last Sunday because of a strained knee, returned to the lineup and was 1-for-2 with a single.

Rockies at the plate: Brad Hawpe hit his fourth home run of the spring with a two-run shot in the fourth. It was his third home run in a stretch of five at-bats and he has five hits in last seven at-bats. Cory Sullivan had four hits, including a triple, in four at-bats.

Rangers on the mound: Bruce Chen, starting for Vicente Padilla, pitched three scoreless innings despite giving up five hits and a walk. He picked two runners off base. Relievers Wes Littleton and Rick Bauer combined to give up eight runs.

Rockies on the mound: Jeff Francis pitched six innings and gave up four runs on 11 hits. He struck out one and did not walk a batter. He now has a 6.48 ERA. Matt Herges and Ramon Ramirez gave up eight runs in the seventh inning.

Cactus League records: Rangers 11-6, Rockies 10-8-1

Up next: Right-hander Robinson Tejeda pitches for the Rangers on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants at Surprise Stadium. The Rangers are off on Monday. The Rockies are also off on Monday and play Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs at Hi Corbett Field, with their starter not yet announced. Rodrigo Lopez will pitch in a Minor League camp game at Hi Corbett on Monday.
