Rangers fend off Brewers
Loe gives up two unearned runs, strikes out three
By Jim Molony / MLB.com
Rangers at the plate: Sammy Sosa had an RBI triple in four at-bats, Ian Kinsler drove in two runs with a single, Kenny Lofton contributed an RBI double and Nate Gold and Miguel Ojeda hit solo homers. The Rangers had a scare in the sixth when a 1-2 fastball from Milwaukee right-hander Yovani Gallardo hit right fielder Nelson Cruz in the helmet. Cruz lay prone on the ground for more than two minutes before leaving the field of his own power. He was taken to Maryvale Professional Hospital for precautionary tests.
Brewers at the plate: Johnny Estrada went 3-for-4 and is hitting .577 (15-for-26). Estrada also drove in two runs. Tony Graffanino had two hits, including an RBI single, while Prince Fielder and Kevin Mench also had two hits apiece. Rickie Weeks went 1-for-3 and drew a bases-loaded walk.
Rangers on the mound: Kameron Loe pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up a pair of unearned runs on three hits and two walks. The right-hander struck out three.
Brewers on the mound: Carlos Villanueva gave up the homer to Ojeda, but other than that allowed just one other baserunner in four innings -- an infield single by Rangers shortstop Michael Young in the first. Villanueva has allowed just two earned runs in 10.0 innings for a 2.70 ERA.
Cactus League records: Rangers 7-4; Brewers 6-8.
Up next: Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets goes to the mound against Mariners left-hander Jarrod Washburn in a 3:05 p.m. CT game in Peoria, Ariz., on Tuesday.
The Rangers will host the White Sox at 3:05 p.m. CT.
