The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has outrighted outfielder Jeff Francoeur off the 40-man roster after he cleared waivers. Francoeur declined the outright and is now a free agent.
Francoeur, 26, was acquired along with cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for infielder Joaquin Arias on August 31. He batted .340 (18-53) with 2 home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games for Texas after the trade, and went 3-for-24 (.125) in 9 postseason contests. Francoeur tied for the National League lead with 11 outfield assists despite spending the final month in the A.L.
With this move, the Rangers now have 33 players on the club's 40-man roster.
