The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Rich Harden on the 15-day disabled list with a left gluteal muscle strain. To take his place on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Ogando (#64) will be in uniform and available in the bullpen for tonight's game in Milwaukee.

Ogando, 26, will be looking to make his major league debut. He has combined to post no record with one save and a 2.05 ERA (7 ER/30.2 IP) in 18 games/3 starts for Frisco (AA) and Oklahoma City (AAA) this season. Opponents have batted .130 (14-108) with 11 walks and 42 strikeouts. Ogando has struck out 42 of 119 batters faced (35.3%) in the minor leagues this season. He opened the year at Frisco, and since a promotion in early May has gone 0-0 with one save and a 3.00 ERA (5 ER/15.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances for Oklahoma City. Pacific Coast League opponents have batted .175 (10-57) with 6 walks and 21 strikeouts. His last appearance came Thursday vs. Albuquerque (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO, 30 pitches/20 strikes).

A converted outfielder, Ogando had never pitched in the United States prior to this season. He had not played in the U.S. since 2004, when he was still an outfielder in the Oakland organization. He was acquired by Texas from Oakland in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft on Dec. 8, 2005, and was on the 40-man roster restricted list from March 13, 2007 until this spring due to visa issues which did not allow him to enter the U.S.

Harden has gone 3-3 with a 5.68 ERA (41 ER/65.0 IP) in 13 games/starts for Texas this season. The first date he would be eligible to be activated off the disabled list is June 27.

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
