Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers today unveiled the team's new home, road, and alternate uniforms for the 2009 season.

There are significant changes to both the home white and road gray jerseys and pants as well as to the blue alternate jersey and the blue batting practice top. In addition, the Rangers are introducing an alternate red home jersey and cap and new batting helmets for 2009.

The uniform combinations were modeled at a press release this afternoon by manager Ron Washington, catcher Taylor Teagarden; infielders Chris Davis and Ian Kinsler; and outfielders Josh Hamilton and David Murphy.

"We are very pleased with the new look that our 2009 uniforms will provide," commented Rangers President Nolan Ryan. "We will have some great alternatives with blue and red jerseys to go with our more traditional home white and road gray tops. We will have consistency with all of our uniform tops with "Texas" across the front. I think all fans will like the new designs."

For the first time, each of the Rangers' new uniform tops will be a cooler mesh fabric as opposed to the more traditional double knit design. Other significant changes include the same font for the lettering on not only the front but also the backs of all jerseys and new trim and piping on all the jerseys, including fronts, backs, sleeves and pant legs. The Rangers will also go from royal blue to black belts and shoes both home and away.

A description of each of the new uniforms:

This is the second time in club history that the Rangers have had a solid red jersey as the club had an alternative red top for the 1984 season. In 2009 the club is planning to wear the red jersey at home on opening day, for all three games of the first home weekend series with Kansas City, April 17-19, and for all other Saturday home games.

The red cap, which previously was the Rangers' home cap from 1994-2000 and road cap from 1994-99, will be worn with the red alternate top at home., The team's regular blue cap will be worn with the white, gray, and blue tops. The blue jersey will remain an alternate top for both home and road games. The Texas flag patch will remain on the left sleeve of all game jerseys.

The Rangers new merchandise will go on sale this afternoon at the official texasrangers.com shop, the Majestic Grand Slam Shop at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington and at the team's Dallas retail store, 2222 McKinney Ave., Suite 140. Authentic and replica white, gray, blue, and red jerseys as well as t-shirts and caps are available.
