Santana, who was 5-0 with a 0.45 ERA (40.0 IP, 20 H, 7 BB, 52 SO) in September, is in the midst of a club-record 13-game winning streak. He is the first hurler to win AL monthly pitching honors three months in a row since Pedro Martinez won from April through June in 1999. Before taking a no-decision (allowing one run in five innings) on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, Santana had a streak of winning 12 straight starts and 21 consecutive quality starts. The left-hander went 13-0 with a 1.21 ERA (104.1 IP, 14 ER, 55 H, 129 SO) in his 15 starts after the All-Star break.
In 28 games, Guerrero batted .371 (39-105) with 24 runs, six doubles, a triple, 10 homers and 23 RBI. He stole five bases and posted a .733 slugging percentage and a .431 on-base percentage. Guerrero, who has set a club record for runs scored this season with an AL-high 123, is the first Angel to win AL Player of the Month honors since July 1997 (Tim Salmon). He is the second player in club history to have a season with at least 120 runs and 120 RBI, joining Don Baylor (1979), and the second player to hit at least .300 with 30 homers and 100 RBI, along with Salmon in 1995. This is Guerrero's sixth career monthly award (first AL).
