Rangers Press Release
Texas Rangers extend Player Development Contract with Frisco RoughRiders through 2018
The Texas Rangers today announced that the organization has extended its Player Development Contract with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League through the 2018 season by adding an additional four years to the agreement.
The Rangers have had a team in Frisco since 2003, matching Short Season-A Spokane in the Northwest League for the organization's longest minor league affiliation. The RoughRiders, which are owned by Mandalay Sports Entertainment, have qualified for the Texas League playoffs seven times in their ten seasons as a Texas affiliate, winning the league championship in 2004.
In 2012, Frisco finished 80-60 overall and won the Texas League's 1st Half South Division title. The RoughRiders swept Corpus Christi in three games in the first round of the TL playoffs and currently trail Springfield, two games to none, in the best of five Texas League Championship Series. Game three of that series is tonight at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco.
This month, Texas has also completed PDC extensions with Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League through 2018 and Low-A Hickory of the South Atlantic League and Short Season-A Spokane of the Northwest League, both through the 2014 season. The club's affiliation with High-A Myrtle Beach of the Carolina League currently extends through 2014.
