Rangers Press Release
Operation Smile joins forces with Texas Rangers pitcher Mike Adams to raise funds for children around the world born with facial deformities
Mystery Ball Fundraiser Spearheaded by Pitcher Mike Adams on July 31st
Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity and pitcher Mike Adams of the Texas Rangers are joining forces to hold a Mystery Ball fundraiser at Rangers Ballpark with proceeds benefiting Operation Smile. The international nonprofit expanded its reach to Dallas earlier this year and introduced Mike and his wife, Shelly as their newest Smile Ambassadors. Operation Smile provides free reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate, whose parents can’t afford the surgery they so desperately need. Adams and his wife, Shelly, are the parents of a young boy who was born with a cleft lip. Adams is committed to devoting his off-the-field time to Operation Smile to help give more children around the world smiles and hope for a new life.
On Tuesday, July 31st, over 350 mystery balls will be sold for $50 a chance from the time gates open through 8:00 p.m. Each bag will contain a baseball autographed by a Rangers player as well as other celebrities. The sale will continue on Wednesday, August 1st if there are any mystery balls remaining.
"Our partnership with Mike Adams is so exciting, because it will help bring new smiles and hope to so many children around the world who are waiting for the surgery they desperately need," said Dr. Bill Magee, co-founder of Operation Smile.
The need for quality cleft care is urgent. Every 3 minutes, a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday. The children who survive often are unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. Operation Smile provides free surgeries for children around the world with the help of medical volunteers and generous supporters, to heal children’s smiles and transform their lives.
