Napoli annoyed by Wilson's Twitter prank
Angels pitcher tweets former teammate's phone number
C.J. Wilson and Mike Napoli were Texas teammates last year, but they're big-time American League West rivals now, and that rivalry heated up a few degrees Monday after a Twitter showdown.
Wilson, who signed with the Angels in the offseason for five years and $78 million, tweeted Rangers catcher Napoli's cell phone number to his more than 116,000 followers on the social networking site last week, in response to Wilson hearing that Napoli said he was looking forward to facing him and hitting home runs in the coming season.
Wilson deleted the tweet, which the pitcher described as a prank, but Napoli was irked, saying that the hassle caused by his privacy being breached was not his definition of "a good time."
Napoli told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "I don't even know why he did it. You don't do that. I am not taking it as a prank. You know, I haven't even talked to him since the end of last season. We don't have that type of relationship.
"I don't even remember saying I want to take him deep. But as every power hitter, you're always trying to take pitchers deep. So I'll say it now: I'm going to try and take him deep."
Wilson was asked about the situation Monday and didn't offer much of a comment.
"Give me a break," Wilson said. "It was four days ago. I'm not having no conversation about Twitter. Come on. It's a joke, it's a prank. Say 'no comment' on anything you write. I have nothing to say. It's not a story. It's a prank. ... I have not heard from anybody. ... It's Spring Training. It's not a big deal."
Wilson later tweeted, "Okay I think we've all had a good time, I'm even with mike for saying he can't wait to hit homers off me."
