Spring Training Info
Brewers on the mound: Wolf became the second Brewers starter of the spring to stretch out as far as six. Dave Bush did it in his last start on March 23 against the Indians at Goodyear, Ariz. Wolf had a stellar outing, allowing only a hit and a walk while striking out seven, dropping his spring ERA to 1.13. Hawkins, making his first appearance since March 11 because of a stiff right shoulder, allowed a run on two hits with a walk and a whiff.
Worth noting: The Brewers optioned infielder Luis Cruz to Triple-A Nashville. Catcher Martin Maldonado was added to the Major League camp and will remain with the team through the exhibition games against Detroit next Friday and Saturday. That leaves 33 players in Major League camp. Right fielder Cory Hart had a tooth pulled and missed Friday's game. He was back in the lineup on Saturday. Ryan Braun is being given a couple of days off to rest because of a tight lower back. He's day-to-day. Catcher Gregg Zaun left the game for a pinch-runner in the sixth because of a leg cramp. Cactus League records: Rangers: 6-16; Brewers: 13-11-1. Up next: The Brewers play the D-backs on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CT in the Tucson Electric Park. It's their last visit to Tucson. Next year, the D-backs and Rockies are moving to the Phoenix area. Left-hander Doug Davis is slated to pitch against his old Arizona mates. Davis came back to the Brewers this past offseason as a free agent after three seasons with the D-backs. He'll face right-hander Rodrigo Lopez, who is vying for a spot in the Arizona starting rotation. The Rangers play the White Sox in Surprise Stadium at 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. Scott Feldman, who was named Opening Day starter on Saturday for the game on April 5 against the Blue Jays at home, is slated to start against Gavin Floyd in a battle of right-handers. The Rangers are down to their last five Cactus League games and break camp Thursday after playing the Reds at Goodyear.Barry M. Bloom is a national reporter for MLB.com.
