Padres at the plate: Jerry Hairston Jr. had two hits, including his first home run of the spring. Hairston's three-run shot fueled a six-run fourth inning. Non-roster invitee Chris Denorfia continued his torrid spring with two hits, including a triple, to raise his average to .378. Minor League infielder Lance Zawadzki had two hits and a walk. Adrian Gonzalez had his first two-hit game of the spring.

Rangers at the plate: Nelson Cruz keyed a five-run third inning with a three-run homer. It was his fourth big fly of the spring. Michael Young had two hits and drove in a run. Leadoff hitter Julio Borbon had a run-scoring single in the third inning and scored a run.

Padres on the mound: Starter Sean Gallagher allowed five runs on five hits over four innings. He did get seven ground-ball outs but elevated a few pitches. Minor Leaguer Jeremy Hefner followed and tossed two scoreless frames. This was Hefner's Cactus League debut. Closer Heath Bell also tossed a scoreless inning.

Rangers on the mound: Starter Rich Harden allowed six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Harden walked three and struck out three but couldn't escape the Padres' six-run fourth. Brad Snyder followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Dustin Nippert allowed a leadoff triple in the sixth, but proceeded to strike out the side. He also worked a scoreless seventh.

Worth noting: When Cruz went deep, it marked his third home run in his last four at-bats in games against the Padres at the Peoria Sports Complex. Cruz has four home runs and leads the Rangers with 14 RBIs this spring.

Cactus League records: Padres 9-9; Rangers 6-11-1

Up next: The Padres head to Tucson, Ariz., on Monday to face the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:05 p.m. PT at Tucson Electric Park. They will face the Rockies the following day at Tucson's Hi Corbett Field. Pitcher Clayton Richard will get the start Monday. He has a 12.15 ERA in three outings so far this spring. Richard is projected to be the No. 4 starter in the rotation.

Vladimir Guerrero will be starting in right field for the Rangers when they play the Giants at 3:05 p.m. CT in Scottsdale, Ariz. This will be Guerrero's second start in right. The Rangers signed him to be their designated hitter, but manager Ron Washington wants to get him in the field occasionally. He did not have a fielding chance in his first game out there this spring.
