Ailing Hamilton not with club for opener
Dealing with pinched nerve, outfielder may play Saturday
BALTIMORE -- Outfielder Josh Hamilton did not travel with the Rangers for the first game of their weekend series with the Orioles on Friday.
Hamilton received an epidural shot Thursday to address a pinched nerve in his lower back. He left Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Blue Jays during the fourth inning.
"He got it done [Thursday]," said manager Ron Washington in his office at Oriole Park at Camden Yards before Friday's game. "He just didn't wake up comfortable enough that he felt like he [could take] a three-hour flight and feel good coming off the plane. We'll just wait until [Saturday]."
Washington said Hamilton's status for Saturday's game was unclear, but he sounded optimistic Hamilton would join the team.
"I saw him Wednesday when he walked off the field and I haven't seen him since," Washington said. "So we'll have to wait to see when he gets here."
The Rangers manager added: "If there's any way Josh can play when he gets here, he'll play."
