Rangers at the plate: Ian Kinsler led off the first inning with a double and scored on a single by Hank Blalock. Kinsler followed that up with a two-run home run in the fifth. It was his first home run of the spring. Josh Hamilton also had a two-hit game.Padres at the plate: Luis Rodriguez got his first hit of the spring with a sixth-inning single. He stole both second and third and then scored on Will Venable's grounder to shortstop.
Rangers on the mound: Scott Feldman breezed through two innings, retiring six straight hitters. Kris Benson, who had been sidelined by back spasms, followed with two scoreless frames. Benson allowed one hit and walked one. Both Feldman and Benson went up to the bullpen and did more throwing after they were finished in the game.Padres on the mound: Cha Seung Baek allowed one run in two innings and now is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in his first two Cactus League starts. Justin Hampson, who is trying to win a job as a long reliever, pitched a scoreless inning. Cactus League records: Rangers 5-3; Padres 2-3 Up next: The Rangers will have a B game against the Royals in the morning and then face them in a Cactus League game at 2:05 p.m. CT on Friday at Surprise Stadium. Omar Vizquel is expected to start at second base for the first time this spring. He has played more games at shortstop than any other player in Major League history, but he has never started a regular-season game at second base.
The Padres will host the Rockies at 12:05 p.m. PT in Peoria. Kevin Correia and Wade LeBlanc, two candidates for the starting rotation, both will pitch.
