Smoak propels Rangers past Royals
Rangers prospect launches first home run of spring in seventh

Rangers at the plate: Justin Smoak hit his first home run of the spring, blasting a three-shot in the bottom of the seventh. Jarrod Saltalamacchia continues his hot start. He was 1-for-2 with an RBI double and is now 7-for-12 with five RBIs in his first five games.
Royals at the plate: Alex Gordon, with the Royals trailing 2-1, hit his second home run of the spring to lead off the seventh. Brayan Pena had a walk and a single and scored a run.Rangers on the mound: Kevin Millwood pitched three scoreless innings for the Rangers. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two. He is unscored upon in two outings this spring. Derek Holland allowed one run on two infield singles in two innings. Royals on the mound: Brian Bannister allowed two runs in three innings in his second Spring outing. Luke Hochevar took over and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Cactus League records: Rangers 4-3; Royals 3-3 Up next: Scott Feldman will be on the mound for the Rangers when they host the Padres at 2:05 p.m. CT on Thursday at Surprise Stadium. Jason Jennings is also scheduled to pitch, his first time against an opposing team since having flexor tendon surgery almost 10 months ago. The Royals are off on Thursday, then play the Rangers again on Friday with Heath Phillips, Ron Mahay and Kyle Farnsworth scheduled to pitch. Gil Meche will pitch against the Rangers in a "B" game in the morning on George Brett Field on the Royals side of the complex.
