at Surprise, Ariz.
Feb. 26, 2009
Rangers at the plate: Josh Hamilton hit his second home run in two games, pounding a drive to dead center field off Joel Peralta in the fifth inning. Hamilton also had a solo shot in Wednesday's opener.
Royals at the plate: After four homers in the opener, John Buck and Coco Crisp launched a new barrage. They each cleared the wall in the third inning. Crisp's drive went more than 400 feet to dead center. Crisp also started a string of four straight singles -- Tony Pena Jr., David DeJesus and Kila Ka'aihue had the others -- that accounted for two runs in the fifth. Ross Gload ripped a bases-loaded triple down the right-field line in the eighth.
Rangers on the mound: Starter Kevin Millwood breezed through his two innings, allowing just one single, and notched three strikeouts. Lefty Derek Holland had a rough third inning, giving up two homers and two walks.
Royals on the mound: Kyle Davies, in his first start, worked two scoreless innings, but he had to pitch out of a bases-loaded jam in the second to do it. He gave up two hits and two walks. Non-roster left-hander Heath Phillips had two hitless innings, giving up one unearned run. Julio Pimentel pitched two scoreless innings, and Roman Colon had one.
Cactus League records: Rangers 1-1; Royals 1-1.
