ARLINGTON -- Tom Grieve isn't ready to resume broadcasting duties yet, but he was doing well enough to stop by Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Tuesday just eight days after undergoing prostate cancer surgery.

Next up: a little golf on Wednesday.

"Maybe a little chipping and putting," Grieve said.

That may seem ambitious, but Grieve was able to take a two-mile walk around the neighborhood one day after undergoing surgery on June 9.

"I feel great," Grieve said. "Everything went exactly as the surgeon described it, and every step has been better than I thought."

Grieve is scheduled to meet with his doctors on June 26. If all goes well, he could be back in the television booth on June 27 when the Rangers return from their next roadtrip to open a three-game series with the Phillies.

"I'm anticipating everything will go well, and I'll be back on the 27th," Grieve said. "That way I feel now, I can't imagine that not being the case."

Grieve is in his 14th season as the color analyst on the Rangers television broadcasts. Nearly 40 of his 41 years in baseball have been spent in the Rangers organization, most notably as an outfielder, and later as the club's general manager for 10 years.
