ARLINGTON -- Hank Blalock made it to Midland on Thursday night. He didn't play in a game, but the trip wasn't a total loss.

"My hotel room had a Jacuzzi," Blalock said.

That didn't do much for his sore left hamstring, and his return from the disabled list isn't going to be as quick as Blalock hoped.

Blalock was scratched from Double-A Frisco's lineup on Thursday when his hamstring tightened up on him after batting practice. He returned to Arlington on Friday and is planning to spend the weekend here before trying again on Monday.

"Everything went great in batting practice," Blalock said. "But after I cooled off from batting practice and got ready for the game, my hamstring felt tight. My body was telling me to wait for a few more days. I didn't have a setback, it just tightened up."

Blalock has been sidelined for three weeks after suffering a partial tear of the left hamstring muscle on April 25 against the Twins. The original prognosis was he would be out 3-4 weeks. It looks like it will be closer to four weeks.

"I was probably being hard-headed, trying to jump the gun," Blalock said. "I just wasn't ready to play."

Blalock probably won't return to Frisco. He may do his rehab work in extended Spring Training in Arizona. Extended Spring Training games are controlled games -- Blalock could lead off every inning and the Rangers could use a pinch-runner for him if needed.

"He feels he can get much more out of it going to Arizona than going to Frisco," Rangers manager Ron Washington said.
